Popularly known as the Deva Snana Purnima, this festival takes place in the full moon day in the month of Jyestha. This – is the first occasion in the course of a year when the wooden images of the three principal deities of the Shree Jagannatha temple, are brought out of the sanctum sanctorum in a procession and placed on the Snana Vedi and are bathed with 108 pitchers of water. On this occasion Jagannatha and Balabhadra are dressed like Ganesa with the head of an elephant.

Priority SOP · Jagannath Mandir Pandit

Read, then walk with a Pandit

The archive is for knowing. The darshan is for tagging along with a Jagannath Mandir Pandit. Do not treat a webpage as a substitute for the person at Singha Dwara.

  1. 1

Know the niti, not the rumour

Dhupa, Alati and Pahuda close or shift the line. A Mandir Pandit reads the live rhythm so you do not stand through a closed door.

  2. 2

Singha Dwara is the public gate

Lion’s Gate is the devotee entry; other gates are mostly exits. Tagging a Pandit keeps you in the correct queue, not a dead end.

  3. 3

    Phones and leather stay outside

Free stands at the gate. A Pandit briefs you before the barricade so security does not send you back.

  4. 4

    Sahana Mela vs distant glimpse

Close Ratnavedi darshan is not the same as Jagamohan viewing. The Pandit times the window when close darshan is actually allowed.

  5. 5

    Offerings without confusion

Hundi, flowers and Mahaprasad have a place. Going with a Pandit stops touts and wrong counters from eating your time.

  6. 6

    Meet, walk, darshan, Ananda Bazaar

SOP: WhatsApp arrival → meet at Lion’s Gate → follow the Pandit through queue and niti pauses → darshan → Mahaprasad. One thread, no scatter.
